Debate Competition at the School Environmental Clubs in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA)


The Environment Cell, FATA Team in collaboration with the Education Directorate FATA organized debate competitions involving the Environmental Clubs in a Boys’ School in Mohmand Agency and in a Girls’ School in Khyber Agency on May 14 and 15, 2018 respectively. The Education Directorate, FATA nominated one of their Assistant Directors as an activity Focal Person for coordination and liaison with the concerned schools. The arrangement for selection of topics for the competitions and other logistic arrangements made by the Education Directorate, FATA. The selected topics for the Environmental Club of the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Ghalani, Mohmand Agency; and the Environmental Club of the Government Girls High School Jamrud, Khyber Agency were:

Activity:  School Environmental Club Debate Competition in Boys School, Ghalani, Mohmand Agency
on May 14, 2018.

Venue:           Government Boys Higher Secondary School Ghalani, Mohmand Agency

Participants:

  1. Principal, Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Ghalani, Mohmand Agency
  2. Teaching Staff, Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Ghalani, Mohmand Agency
  3. Students, Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Ghalani, Mohmand Agency

Program Details:

  • The event took place in the school auditorium from 0900 to 1130 hours
  • The Role of Forests in the Climate Change of FATA فاٹا کی ماحولیاتی تبدیلی میں جنگلات کا کردار was the topic for the debate competition.
  • Said Wali, In-charge Teacher of the School Literary Society was the master of ceremony.
  • The event started with recitation from the Holy Quran. Mr. Abdur Rehman, student of the school recited a few versus from the Holy Quran.
  • Ibad Ullah, a student presented his Poetry related to the event.
  • The speakers of the competition were: Mr. Junaid, Mr. Ikram,
    Waseem, Mr. Safeer Ullah and Mr. Junaid.
  • Asim Jamal, Program Officer made a briefing on the program and highlighted the importance of the school environmental club, role of forest and trees in climate change and link of the forests with the economic and environmental uplift of FATA.
  • Ahmed-ud-Din, Assistant Director presented his views and highlighted the need of the forests in the light of Islam. He further informed about joint efforts of the Line Departments for the protection of existing forests and for growing more trees.
  • The Principal of the School appreciated the role and importance of the School Environmental Clubs and activities undertaken by the club. The Principal stressed upon students to take care of the greenery at school and to enhance the green cover by planting more trees. He further requested for exploring windows for water availability at school premises through linkages with the concerned Donors by Environment Cell and Education Directorate, FATA.

Conclusion/reflections:

  • At the end of the event, the participating students were awarded certificates for their participation. The teachers who facilitated the event were also given certificates for their facilitation services.
  • The students who attained 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the completion were given cash prizes of Rs. 3000, 2500 and 2000 respectively. Mr. Safeer Ullah, Mr. Waseem and Mr. Ikram got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
  • The Principal and the faculty members appreciated the event and requested to continuously conducting such sessions for keeping the school Environment Club active. The member students of the school environment club and focal teacher also requested for organizing an exposure visit to the natural forest areas.
  • At the closing of the event refreshment was served for the participating students and the faculty members.

on May 15, 2018.

Venue:           Government Girls High School, Jamrud, Khyber Agency

Participants:

  3. Students, Government Girls High School, Jamrud, Khyber Agency

Program Details:

  • The event took place in the School Lawn under a canopy from 0900 to 1130 hours.
  • The Role of women in betterment of the environment of FATA فاٹا کی ماحولیاتی بہتری میں خواتین کا کردار was the topic for the debate competition.
  • Rubina Wali, In-charge Teacher of the School Literary Society was the stage secretary.
  • The event started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. Ms. Naeema, a student of the school recited a few versus from the Holy Quran.
  • A group of KG students of the Primary Section presented a skit.
  • The debate competition started with a speech by Ms. Rehmania.
  • During the event, not only speeches were delivered, but the students also presented a skit in connection with the debate topic.
  • Mahum, Ms. Laiba Afridi, Ms. Saba, Ms. Gulalai, Ms. Maryam and Ms. Naeema were among the other speakers.
  • The skit was presented by a group of students led by Ms. Shazia, Ms. Nawesha, Ms. Fareeha and Ms. Marwa.
  • Rehmania presented a beautiful national song which was warmly appreciated by the students.
  • Asim Jamal, Program Officer explained the program objectives, importance of school environmental clubs, role of the clubs and role of women in betterment of environment in FATA.
  • The Principal of the school expressed appreciation for an active involvement of the Environment Cell FATA towards formation and activation of the school environmental club. She also highlighted the support of the Cell for providing trees saplings which were planted at the school premises and requested for more trees during the forthcoming plantation season. She informed that patches of plants have been assigned to different classes for watering and caring. She requested for exploring an opportunity for installation of a solar system at the School premises through linkages with the concerned donors by the Environment Cell and Education Directorate FATA.

Conclusion/reflections:

  • At the end of the event, the competing students of the debate were awarded certificates for their participation. The teachers who facilitated the event were also given certificates.
  • The students who attained 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the debate were given cash prizes @ Rs. 3000, 2500 and 2000 to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions holders respectively. Ms. Rehmania, Ms. Gulalai and Group of KG students presented a skit got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively
  • Refreshment was also served at the end of the event.
