Plantation Drive in Khyber Tribal District – Plant for Pakistan, 2nd September 2018


To take part in the present Government Green Pakistan plantation drive “Plant For Pakistan” the Environment Cell, FATA team approached the Conservator Forestry, FATA for joint collaboration. The Divisional Forest Officer, Khyber Tribal District informed that they are arranging the plantation in three tehsils (Jamrud, Landikotal and Bara) at the selected sites on September 2, 2018 to initiate the plantation of 100,000 plants in the district. Plantation sites were Takhata Baig in Jamrud Tehsil, Shalman in Landikotal Tehsil and Akakhel in Bara Tehsil. The plantation drive was attended by Conservator Forest, DFO, Range Officer Khyber Forest Division, Special Secretary to the Federal Ministry for Religious Affairs, Students of local Government Schools, local PTI party leaders and Environment Cell, FATA team. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Khyber Tribal District. The ADC, Khyber Tribal District appreciated the efforts of current Government who take special interest in greening the country, thanked the Forest Department and Environment Cell for arranging the drive. He planted the plant with gathering to initiate the drive. On the occasion total of 1400 plants were planted at the site.

The ADC, Khyber Tribal District, Forest FATA and Environment Cell team moved to Shalman site in Tehsil Landikotal for the next plantation site near the Cantonment at Landikotal. On the site the Chariman Awami Jirga-District Khyber, Tribal Elders and Malaks of the area welcomed the delegation and the ceremony started and plants were planted by the members of the visiting guests from Administration, Forest FATA and Environment Cell Team. At the site a large gathering of the local Malaks, Elders and members of the local Jirga, members and Office barriers of local Falahi Tanzeem, a local NGO and students of Local Government Schools were present. The event started with recitation of Holly Quran, followed by speech of Chief Guest and presentation of traditional Turban (Dastar Pagrai) to ADC, Khyber Tribal District. The plantation at the site, started with the planting of a plant by the Chief Guest. During the plantation at site, convoy of Pakistan Army was passing and when they saw the activity they stopped and took part in the plantation drive at site. The Lt Col–Khyber Rifles, Captain-Khyber Rifles, Khyber Rifles soldiers and Frontier Core Soldiers also took part in the plantation at the site. The Lt. Col–Khyber Rifles also spoke briefly on the occasion and said that “he knows that there is water shortage in the area and the plants require water so the people can store the “Wudhu” water and use it for watering the plants. Total of 600 plants were planted on the site. At the occasion many media people were also present to capture the events.
